CHERRY HILL, New Jersey — The updated 2014 Subaru Forester, which will get a new six-speed manual transmission and a continuously variable transmission (CVT), will debut at the 2012 Los Angeles Auto Show.

Pricing has not been announced.

The revised Forester gets what Subaru describes as a "bolder profile," that appears to be influenced by the 2013 Subaru Impreza.

The 2013 Forester is equipped with either a five-speed manual transmission or a four-speed automatic transmission. The 2014 Forester will be one of the few crossovers that offers a manual transmission.

The standard 170-horsepower 2.5-liter inline four-cylinder engine is a carryover from the 2013 Forester. But the 2014 Forester's 2.0-liter turbocharged inline four-cylinder engine now makes 250 hp, up from 224 hp. The 2014 Subaru Forester Turbo is only offered with the CVT, which features six- and eight-speed manual modes and Hill Descent Control.

The 2014 Forester has 8.7 inches of ground clearance, just slightly less than the 8.9 inches on some 2013 Foresters.

All-wheel drive will be standard. Subaru says rear seat legroom has increased and the cargo area is bigger. Options will include a navigation system, rearview camera and a Harman Kardon premium audio system.

Edmunds says: The 2014 Subaru Forester gets an update with some major hardware changes.
